The nature of being. The art of becoming
Amid endless slopes, hidden dry riverbeds, and ancient hills of the Namib Desert lies SCHLESIEN – Earth Unearth – a sacred expanse where the quite hearted and creative thinkers are invited to surrender to the essence of being. It is a space of profound quiet where the state of being is not forced but found. Free from the constraints and noise of modern life, people from all corners of the world can uncover new perspectives, letting their expressions emerge from a place of deep introspection and uninterrupted flow. To be at Schlesien is to be with the land, to allow the natural rhythms to guide the art of becoming.
Earth Unearth, at a glance
Earth Unearth is not a lodge, a guest farm, or a place of passing through.
It exists within an unpopulated, non-commercial landscape where human presence is light and deliberate. There are no crowds here, no itineraries, and no activities competing for your attention.
What we offer instead is time — uninterrupted and unstructured.
Staying at Earth Unearth is closer to retreating into a place within the landscape than visiting a destination. Guests arrive to live on their own terms, without scheduled services or entertainment. There is staff present when needed, but no one hovering, guiding, or organising your days.
Privacy, autonomy, and space are respected.
Days unfold according to light, weather, appetite, and rest.
Movement is slow. Encounters are few.
There is also very little to do in the conventional sense. There are no curated experiences. What fills the days instead are walks without destination, time for reading, cooking, resting, thinking, and, for some, creating work. The quiet is intentional.
Earth Unearth is especially suited to those who travel slowly — often those who already know Namibia well. Many of our guests return not to see more, but to stay longer, to settle into the remoteness and allow the landscape to work on them gradually.
If you are looking for variety, stimulation, or a sense of being looked after, this may not be the right place. If, however, you are seeking solitude, distance from noise and demand, and the rare opportunity to simply be with yourself in an uncompromised landscape, Earth Unearth may feel like a place to arrive and remain.
Entering the landscape
Within Earth Unearth, there are two distinct ways of entering the landscape. Either through the Eyrie or the Klip Huis, both guided by the same values
A respect for silence
A willingness to slow down
An openness to being shaped by landscape and solitude
