Welcome to the Klip Huis

A house of stone, set firmly into the land — built to hold both living and making, to offer a quiet container for those who come to work, and for those who come simply to be.

The Klip Huis sits in the desert with open horizons in every direction. It is a place where light shifts slowly across walls and floors, where mornings unfold in conversation with the rising sun, and evenings settle with the cool hush of the night.

Here, the land is never distant. Artists may find it in the textures of stone and sand, in the shape of a branch or the curve of a dune; guests may find it in the slow rhythm of cooking, walking, reading, or simply watching. At different times, the house welcomes both — each held in the same quiet attention.

The Klip Huis

The Klip Huis is built as a single, open structure - simple, grounded, and communal in nature.

The interior is organized as one continuous space, accommodating up to four people. Kitchen, lounge, writing desks, sleeping areas are brought together without separation, and an ensuite bathroom, encouraging a shared rhythm of living while still allowing for personal quiet.

The Klip Huis has its own private art studio, filled with natural light and oriented toward the horizon. From here, the land opens fully, offering a 180° view across the Namib–Naukluft desert, where sunrises and sunsets mark the passing of the day without interruption.

The Architecture

The Klip Huis is a grounded, elemental place — a stone house designed for long, unhurried stays within the landscape. It suits those who value simplicity, self-sufficiency, and closeness to the land. Life here is pared back and practical, shaped by daily routines rather than indulgence.

The Klip Huis is often chosen by those who are no longer seeking stimulation. Instead, they come to stay, to live lightly, and to settle into the slow repetition of everyday life.

As with all stays at Earth Unearth, a minimum of six nights applies. This is a place for remaining — for allowing the land and the silence to work gradually. The Klip Huis is serviced daily. Should guests prefer complete privacy, alternative arrangements can be made.

Living simply

The Klip Huis is offered on either a stocked, self-catering or a purely self-catering basis. The kitchen is fully equipped, designed to support unhurried, everyday cooking.

When booked on a stocked, self-catering basis, food is thoughtfully discussed and prepared in advance, with menus shaped in consultation with guests and stocked according to individual dietary preferences. The food is simple, nourishing, and considered, allowing daily life to unfold without the need to plan. Cooking becomes part of the rhythm of the day rather than a task, integrated quietly into the slower pace of living.

A place to create

The Klip Huis is designed for focused periods of making within the landscape.

Artists arrive with their own practices - painting, photography, or sculpture with materials found in the environment or scrapyard - and the space is held exclusively for them. There is no schedule, no program, no expectation beyond time and attention.

The Klip Huis provides accommodation and studio space, allowing work to unfold naturally. Days are long, quiet, and unprescribed. The only constant is the landscape itself, offering both challenge and inspiration.

Nourishment

Living sustainably

Here exists a quiet relationship with the land and the life it supports.

The Klip Huis is powered entirely by solar energy, with water drawn from a borehole and used with care. These systems are not presented as features, but as necessities — allowing human presence to remain light and responsible within a fragile environment.
